Optimal Tattoo Aftercare
The longevity and vibrancy of your tattoo depend entirely on what happens in the first few weeks. Follow these rules to ensure your piece heals flawlessly.
1. Wrapping: Second Skin vs. Traditional
- Second Skin (Recommended): We use a medical-grade, transparent bandage (e.g., Tegaderm, Saniderm) that is breathable and waterproof. Keep it on for 3 to 5 days for the best healing.
- Removal: If it begins to peel, let us know. Otherwise, let it stay for the full duration.
- Traditional Wrapping: In cases where Second Skin is not suitable (e.g., skin sensitivity or specific placements), we will use a traditional wrap. Keep this on for 2 to 4 hours.
- Next Step: Once removed, wash immediately with mild, fragrance-free soap.
2. Cleaning and Drying
- Wash Gently: Use only your clean hands and lukewarm water. No washcloths or sponges!
- Fragrance-Free Soap: Use a mild, unscented, anti-bacterial soap.
- Pat Dry: Use a clean paper towel to pat the area dry. Do not rub.
3. Moisturizing
Apply a very thin layer of recommended aftercare cream twice a day. The tattoo should be moisturized but still able to ‘breathe’. If it looks shiny, you’ve used too much.
4. Long-Term Maintenance
- Airing it Out: After the initial healing, let your tattoo breathe as much as possible. Wear loose, cotton clothing.
- Sun Protection: UV rays are the greatest enemy of tattoo vibrancy. Use sunscreen once the tattoo is fully healed (after 3-4 weeks).
- Don’t Pick!: It will itch. This is normal. Picking or scratching will pull the ink out of your skin.
Question?: If you have any concerns about redness, excessive swelling, or unusual pain, please contact us immediately or consult a medical professional.
